Paint the Town 5K for Cancer

September 20, 2016 2:55 p.m.

Bring awareness to all types of cancer and join in the fun at Paint the Town 5K Color Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 8, in Mattoon.

Sponsored by Sarah Bush Lincoln, Paint the Town begins at 8 am at the Mattoon Bus Depot, following an established “Run for the Bagel” route through Lytle Park and ending at the YMCA. The run will feature the opportunity to run through “color” and hosts water stops at two locations.

Participants and supporters are encouraged to wear a tutu representing a color of the cancer they want to honor. A limited number of tutus will be available for $10 at the event.

Race Director and SBL Healthy Communities Director Laura Bollan said, “People who participated in the event last year had a great deal of fun, dressing in colorful and entertaining outfits and running and walking with friends and family members. We are looking forward to a great event again this year as we have expanded it to recognize all types of cancer.”

Additionally, following the run/walk, those who wish to celebrate with their friends, family and other participants may do so near the finish line. The “after party” will include inflatables for kids, food, a place to sit and visit under a tent and photo opportunities with a balloon ribbon, as well as other fun activities.

The cost of the family-friendly run is $20. Participants can register at www.sarahbush.org. Children and strollers are welcome.

Sarah Bush Lincoln is hosting a “Make and Take” tutu event in an effort to help participants make their own colorful tutus. The class is set for 6 to 8:30 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The cost of the class is $10 and includes all supplies including a wide variety of colors of tulle. Participants are asked to bring a pair of scissors. To reserve a seat, call SBL Public Relations at 217 258-2420, or register online at www.sarahbush.org

For more information about the run, call Laura Bollan, race director at 217 345-6828.
