November 6, 2015 1:54 p.m.

Despite funding delays in senior nutrition programs, Peace Meal will continue to provide meals to its clients Monday through Friday throughout its service region.

Peace Meal, a senior nutrition program, administered through Sarah Bush Lincoln, helps seniors improve their nutrition, sustain their independence and enhance the quality of their life by providing meals, fellowship and connections to other needed services.

Peace Meal Director Barbra Wylie said, "We are fortunate that Sarah Bush Lincoln believes in the Peace Meal mission and helps support the program despite budgetary delays."

Peace Meal offers home-delivered meals Monday through Friday and also offers noon-time meals at congregate sites throughout the region, in which participants can enjoy fellowship, receive education and enjoy a hearty meal. Sites are located in the following counties: Champaign, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Dewitt, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Iroquois, Livingston, McLean, Moultrie, Piatt and Shelby. For a list of its sites, please go to www.sarahbush.org/peacemeal/peace-meal-site-locator.

Peace Meal was created in 1974 as a result of the Older Americans Act. While partial funding is received from Older Americans Act and Illinois General Revenue Funds, the majority of funds are raised through the generosity of communities and individuals, and the suggested contribution received from clients.
